Some children develop very picky eating habits that may affect their weight, diet, and overall health, as well as their family dynamic and lifestyle regarding food. These children may be more than just picky eaters, but instead problem-feeders. These limited diets can also be difficult for families to afford or accommodate, and/or may also cause digestive issues and difficulties with bowel movements. Here are some resources that I have found helpful in working with families with picky eaters or problem-feeders.
Cooking with your child to promote inclusion and exposure to foods
With constant supervision and at your own risk.
SOS Approach to Feeding support for children and families with feeding concerns.
Just Take a Bite book by Lori Ernsperger and Tania Stegen-Hanson
Food chaining techniques
You can find a lot of resources and books on food chaining on the internet.
It is essentially taking food that a child does like and making micro changes to the food to hopefully encourage them to like a new food.
For example:
French fries
French fries from different brands or stores
French fries with sauces
Potato chips and/or veggie straws
Different flavored potato chips
Different types of potato chips
Different brands of potato chips
Veggie straws
Different types and brands of veggie straws
Apple Chips
Different types of apple chips
Different shapes
Homemade versus store-bought
Apples
Different types of apples
Different sauces for apples
