Our community offers a variety of resources for families, including non-profits, after-school programs, and support services. Below is a list of some community resources that may be able to help your child and family thrive.

Help Me Grow Alaska

A non-profit in the Anchorage area that aids families with finding resources including outpatient therapy providers (e.g., speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy). Free for families.

Stone Soup Group

A non-profit that supports families of children with special needs. They have parent mentorship programs, activities, and a lot of very helpful information for families.

Access Alaska
 

As per their website cited in 2024: "Access Alaska encourages and promotes the total integration of people who experience a disability and senior Alaskans to live independently in the community of their choice." They also have a free durable medical equipment loan closet for Alaskan communities.

Support for people with disabilities to gain and maintain employment.

Assets Inc.

Their mission as per their website cited in 2024: "Our mission is to consistently improve the employment opportunities, home environments, and community connections of individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental illnesses who need substantial supports."

Arc of Anchorage

Provide employment opportunities, housing, behavioral support, activities, foster care support, case management, nursing, and more to people with disabilities in the Anchorage area.

Challenge Alaska

Paralympic sport association in Anchorage and Girdwood. Provides opportunities for adaptive paddling, rock climbing, basketball, hockey, biking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and more.

Special Olympics of Alaska

Provides recreational and sports activities for people with disabilities in Alaska including floor hockey, track, basketball, bowling, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and much more! They also have school programs in high schools and middle schools and a summer camp for these age groups called Camp Shriver.

Medicaid and TEFRA health insurance programs for eligible individuals based on income OR disability.

Supernova Advocates

They can support families with applying for TEFRA.
