Bike Riding Support Ideas

I have worked with at least 15 families on bike riding. The most effective strategy I have found is using the balance bike method. You can turn any bike into a balance bike by removing training wheels and dropping the seat so that when a child sits on the bike, their feet touch the ground. You do not need to remove the pedals, but that can be helpful to at least get them out of the way. Have a child ride around using their feet to balance and encourage them to try the pedals when they are ready. This can take 1 week, but it can also take 3 months to 1 year depending on how often you practice and how comfortable the child is.
Once the child masters using a two-wheeled bike, try to by a bike with hand brakes. It can be really tricky to stop using their feet to stop if they brakes are the backward pedal brakes and also if the brakes are not within their line of sight.
Training wheels can still help with bike riding, but training wheels teach kids to balance the wrong way. I have seen more success with balance biking.
